Congratulations to Noga Alon and Adi Shamir for winning the 2024 Wolf Prize.

Noga Alon received the prize “for his fundamental contributions to Combinatorics and Theoretical Computer Science,” and Adi Shamir “for his fundamental contributions to Mathematical Cryptography.”

This is also wonderful news for the Israeli scientific community and for the areas of combinatorics and theoretical computer science. Here are a few blog posts about Noga’s work.

Noga Alon and Udi Hrushovski won the 2022 Shaw Prize; An interview with Noga Alon (2019); Test Your Intuition (27) about the Alon-Tarsi Conjecture (2017); The seventeen camels riddle, and Noga Alon’s camel proof and algorithms (2017); Subspace Designs, Unit and Distinct Distances, and Piercing Standard Boxes (2023); NogaFest, NogaFormulas, and Amazing Cash Prizes (2015); A lecture by Noga (2014); Cap Sets, Sunflowers, and Matrix Multiplication (2011);

Adi Shamir is perhaps the most famous researcher in cryptography in the world (with many contributions to other areas of computer science). He is famous for being the ‘S’ of “RSA”, for the Fiat-Shamir heuristic, for his theorem that IP=PSPACE, and he is among the few researchers that do research both in cryptography and in cryptoanalysis. Adi’s work on IP=PSPACE is mentioned in this post, and mathematical cryptography theory in this post.
